Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about subscriptions, reminders, spending, privacy, and everything else SubIQ can do.
Getting started
What is SubIQ?
SubIQ keeps your subscriptions, renewal dates, reminders, and costs in one place. It shows what will charge next, how much you are spending, and which subscriptions may no longer be worth keeping.
Which devices support SubIQ?
SubIQ is available for iPhone and Android. Some system features, such as widgets and notification settings, can look different on each platform.
How do I get started?
Start by adding a subscription or letting SubIQ look for recurring charges in a statement, image, or Gmail. Once the price and next payment date are saved, SubIQ can show upcoming charges, send reminders, and break down your spending.
Do I need to create an account?
You can begin using SubIQ without setting up a separate email and password. Sign in with Apple or Google when you want your saved subscriptions available across devices.
Is SubIQ free to use?
Yes. The free version lets you track up to two subscriptions. Premium lets you track as many as you need and unlocks features such as smart imports, reminders, spending reports, cancellation help, and refund guidance.
Can I add a service that is not in the list?
Yes. Create a custom subscription, enter the service name, and choose your own logo if needed.
Adding subscriptions
How do I add a subscription manually?
Tap Add, choose a service or create your own, then enter the price, the currency you are charged in, how often it renews, and the next payment date. You can also add a category, payment method, note, trial, and reminders.
Can I scan a receipt or screenshot?
Yes. SubIQ can read photos and screenshots of receipts or subscription settings. It shows you the price, currency, renewal schedule, and dates it found so you can check them before saving.
Can I scan more than one image at a time?
Yes. You can select up to 12 images in one scan. SubIQ checks them together and shows the subscriptions it recognizes so you can review each one.
How does bank statement import work?
Choose one or more PDF or CSV statements. SubIQ looks for charges that repeat on different dates and shows the likely subscriptions for you to review. It does not connect to your bank or add anything automatically.
What files can I use for bank statement import?
Use PDF or CSV files. A scan can include up to 12 files, each up to 8 MB, with a combined limit of 24 MB.
Can SubIQ find subscriptions in Gmail?
Yes. When you start a Gmail scan, SubIQ can view likely billing emails but cannot edit, delete, or send messages. It does not watch your inbox continuously, and you review every subscription before adding it.
Does SubIQ add detected subscriptions automatically?
No. Gmail, statement, image, and receipt scans only suggest subscriptions. You choose a result, check or correct its details, and tap Save before it appears in SubIQ.
Can I track free and paid trials?
Yes. Add the trial price, start and end dates, and the regular price that begins after the trial. You can also turn on a separate trial-ending reminder.
How often can a subscription renew?
You can track weekly, every two weeks, monthly, every three months, every six months, and yearly payments. For less common schedules, create a custom repeat time using days, weeks, months, quarters, or years.
What if the price or renewal schedule changes?
Edit the subscription and choose when the new price or schedule starts: today, the next renewal, from the beginning, or on a date you choose. Older spending keeps the previous details, while later payments use the new ones.
Calendar & reminders
What does the renewal calendar show?
The calendar puts each expected charge on its payment date. For the dates you are viewing, it lists every payment, the estimated total, and whether each charge has passed or is still coming.
Can I choose a custom payment date range?
Yes. Use Last month, This month, Rest of this month, Next month, or Custom range. A custom range lets you choose both the start and end date.
How does the calendar decide what is paid or due?
Payments dated before today are shown as paid. Payments due today or later are shown as upcoming. SubIQ works from the renewal dates you saved; it does not check your bank to confirm that money moved.
How does SubIQ estimate the cost for a date range?
SubIQ adds the payments expected between the start and end dates you chose. If those subscriptions use different currencies, it converts them into the currency you selected for combined totals.
Can I search, filter, and sort calendar payments?
Yes. Search by subscription name and sort by renewal date, name, or price. You can combine those controls with any calendar date range.
How early can SubIQ remind me about a renewal?
Each subscription can have up to three reminder times. Choose 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, or 90 days before the scheduled charge.
Are trial reminders separate from renewal reminders?
Yes. Trial-ending reminders and regular renewal reminders have separate controls, so you can choose different timing for each.
Why am I not receiving reminders?
Check that notifications are allowed for SubIQ in your phone settings, reminders are enabled for the subscription, and the chosen reminder time is still in the future. Battery or focus settings can also delay notifications.
Spending & currencies
What can I see in Analytics?
The Analytics screen shows your average monthly cost, what has already been charged, what is still expected, how spending changes by month, and which categories or subscriptions cost the most.
Can I view subscription spending by month or year?
Yes. Choose Month to focus on one month or Year to compare January through December. You can tap a month or year to see which subscriptions make up the total.
What is the difference between spent and estimated spending?
Spent so far is the total of payment dates that have already passed. Estimated total adds the payments still expected later in the month or year, so you can see what the full period may cost.
Can each subscription stay in the currency I pay in?
Yes. A €12 subscription can stay in euros and a $10 subscription can stay in dollars. When SubIQ shows one combined total in the calendar or spending screens, it converts both into the currency you chose for totals.
Does SubIQ support different currencies?
Yes. Save each subscription in the currency you actually pay. Choose one currency for combined totals, and SubIQ will convert the subscriptions before adding them together.
How are currency conversions calculated?
SubIQ uses recent exchange rates and refreshes them about once a day. Converted totals are estimates, so they can differ slightly from the final amount charged by your bank or card provider.
Can I see spending by category?
Yes. Analytics groups subscription spending by categories such as Entertainment, Productivity, Music, Finance, and others. You can open a category to focus on the subscriptions inside it.
Will changing a price rewrite my old spending?
No, as long as you enter when the change starts. Months before that date keep the old price, while payments from that date onward use the new price.
Tools & widgets
Does SubIQ have Home Screen widgets?
Yes. SubIQ provides renewal widgets on iPhone and Android so you can check upcoming charges without opening the app.
What do the widgets show?
Widgets show the subscriptions charging next, their prices, and how many days remain. The available widget sizes and layout depend on your phone.
Can SubIQ cancel a subscription for me?
SubIQ shows where to go and what to tap for supported services, including subscriptions billed through the App Store, Google Play, Amazon, PayPal, and others. You still confirm the cancellation with the company or store that charges you.
Can SubIQ help with an unexpected charge?
SubIQ can show refund-request guidance for supported services. Refund approval and payment are handled by the company, App Store, Google Play, or payment provider that processed the charge.
What does “What if I cancel?” calculate?
Choose the subscriptions you may cancel and SubIQ adds up what you would save each month and each year. If they use different currencies, SubIQ converts them first so you still get one clear total.
Should I mark a subscription cancelled or delete it?
Mark it cancelled when it will no longer renew but you still want to remember what you paid before. Delete it only when you want to remove the subscription and all of its saved history from SubIQ.
Plans & purchases
How do I restore a Premium purchase?
Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure your phone is signed into the Apple or Google account that bought Premium. If you changed phones, also sign into the same SubIQ account to bring back your subscription list.
How do I request a refund for SubIQ Premium?
App purchases are billed by Apple or Google, so refund requests must be submitted through the store that processed the payment. Their eligibility rules and decisions apply.
Privacy & data
Is my financial data secure?
SubIQ does not connect to your bank or ask for bank login details. Files and images you choose to scan are processed to find subscriptions, then the originals are discarded. You review every result before anything is saved.
Can SubIQ access my bank account?
No. SubIQ never asks for your bank username or password. It only sees a bank statement when you choose a PDF or CSV file for it to scan.
Does SubIQ keep my bank statement files?
No. SubIQ processes the PDF or CSV you choose, then discards the original file. It keeps only the possible subscriptions it found so you can review them; it does not keep the statement or its transaction text.
Does SubIQ keep images I scan?
No. SubIQ processes the images you choose, then removes the temporary copies after the scan finishes, fails, or is cancelled. It keeps only the possible subscriptions it found for you to review.
What can SubIQ access in Gmail?
When you start a scan, SubIQ can read messages that look like receipts, renewals, or other billing emails. It cannot send, edit, or delete email, it does not read attachments, and it does not watch your inbox continuously.
What happens when I disconnect Gmail?
SubIQ removes its Gmail access and deletes the results and email data from those scans. Any subscriptions you already chose to save stay in your SubIQ list.
Can I sync my subscriptions across devices?
Yes. Sign in with Apple or Google, then use the same SubIQ account on your other devices. Your saved subscriptions will sync automatically.
Does SubIQ work offline?
Subscriptions you have already opened may still be visible without a connection, and reminders already scheduled on your phone can continue. Syncing, Gmail scans, smart imports, currency-rate updates, and purchase changes need internet access.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open Settings, choose Account, then tap Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, settings, saved subscriptions, and scan results. It cannot be undone.
Why are my subscriptions missing on another device?
Check that both devices are online and signed into the same SubIQ account. If your subscriptions appear but Premium does not, tap Restore Purchases while using the Apple or Google account that bought it.
