Quick answer
Cancel through your Google Play account
To cancel a Google Play subscription, open Play Store → your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation prompts.
These steps apply to subscriptions billed through Google Play. If the service bills you directly, cancel through that service instead.
Cancel a Google Play subscription on Android
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Check that you're using the Google account that paid for the subscription.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription you want to cancel.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Choose your reason for canceling if asked.
- Complete the final cancellation prompt.
Google's official cancellation tutorial shows the profile-menu route and final confirmation. If the subscription is missing, check the billing account below.
Cancel through a browser instead
You can cancel on the web, including after switching phones:
- Open Google Play subscriptions.
- Sign in with the Google account used for the subscription.
- Find the subscription and select Manage.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- Choose the reason for canceling.
- Select Continue.
- Complete any remaining cancellation prompts.
See Google's browser cancellation instructions.
Check that your subscription is canceled
Look for the cancellation confirmation, then open the subscription's details again and check when access ends. Save the confirmation or end date.
A subscription may stay in your list after you cancel, but that does not mean it will renew. For a regular paid subscription, you can keep using it for the time you've already paid for. Cancellation stops the next renewal. Google's cancellation guidance.
Two plan types work differently:
- Prepaid plan: It expires automatically at the end of the period you bought. You don't need to cancel it to stop renewal.
- Payment plan with installments: Stopping renewal doesn't cancel the remaining payments you already agreed to make. See Google's plan-specific cancellation guidance.
Cancel a free trial before it renews
Cancel an unwanted Google Play trial before it expires to avoid the first subscription charge. Google's trial guidance.
Check the trial terms and cancellation message to see when access ends. Don't assume every free trial stays available after cancellation.
If the trial has already turned into a paid subscription, cancel future renewals first. Then request a refund for the charge separately.
What to check if you can't cancel
Your subscription isn't listed
Your app login and the Google account used for payment may be different. Start with the receipt:
- Search your email for the subscription's Google Play receipt.
- Check which Google account received it.
- Check your other email inboxes if you can't find it.
- If a family member made the purchase, ask them to check their Google account.
To switch accounts in the Play Store:
- Open the Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap the down arrow beside your account.
- Select the account used for the purchase.
- Open Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions and look for the plan again.
See Google's missing-subscription help and account-switching instructions.
If the receipt identifies another billing company, cancel with that company. Downloading an app from the Play Store doesn't mean Google handles its subscription payments. For an Apple-billed subscription, use our iPhone cancellation guide.
The cancellation button doesn't work
Try the browser cancellation steps with the same billing account. If you're still stuck, open Google's cancellation help and follow the available support options. Explain which subscription you're canceling and include any error message.
You can't sign in to the billing account
- Follow Google's account-recovery instructions.
- Once you regain access, open Google Play subscriptions.
- Select the subscription and complete the cancellation steps.
For a work or school account, you may need help from your administrator.
Already charged? Request a Google Play refund
Cancellation and refunds are separate. Cancel the subscription to stop renewal, then request a refund for any existing charge you want reviewed. A refund is not automatic.
For apps and in-app purchases, including subscriptions, Google says a purchase made within the past 48 hours may qualify for a refund. After 48 hours, contact the app developer. Approval depends on the purchase and applicable policy. Google's refund policy.
You can start with Google's refund request tool. To request a refund through the Google Play website:
- Open play.google.com.
- Sign in with the Google account used for the purchase.
- Select your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Payments & subscriptions.
- Select Budget & order history.
- Find the charge and select Report a problem.
- Choose the reason that matches what happened.
- Complete the form and explain that you'd like a refund.
- Select Submit.
If the charge isn't listed, check your other Google accounts. If Google issues a refund, you lose access to the refunded purchase. See Google's refund request instructions.
Contact the app developer
If Google can't refund the purchase, or it was more than 48 hours ago, find the developer's contact details:
- Open the Play Store.
- Search for the app.
- Open the app's listing.
- Open App support.
- Use the contact details shown to request a refund.
Include the transaction ID, purchase date, amount and why you're requesting a refund. The developer decides whether it can issue one under its policy and applicable law. See Google's developer-contact guidance.
Find your Google Play order number in the purchase confirmation email. Look for the number starting with GPA.

Google Play order number: [GPA order number]
Amount paid: [amount and currency]
My reason for requesting a refund is: [explain what happened].

Replace the placeholders before sending. If Google already declined your request and referred you to the developer, mention that too.
Check your refund status
Google says refund decisions usually take 1–4 days. Check your request through Google's refund status help.
An approved request doesn't mean the money has reached your account yet. The time for it to arrive depends on your payment method. Google's status page also lists those processing times.
Frequently asked questions
Does deleting an app cancel a Google Play subscription?
No. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel its subscription. Cancel it through Google Play before deleting it if you want to stop renewal. Google's cancellation help.
Can I pause a Google Play subscription instead of canceling?
Some apps let you pause a subscription. If that option is available, the pause starts at the end of your current billing period. Check the dates and terms shown before confirming so you know when it will resume. See Google's pause instructions.
Keep your cancellation confirmation and access end date. If a later charge appears, compare its receipt with the subscription and account you canceled.
